Renovation Update

Now that we have successfully completed our fundraising, we are getting close to the start of construction. We do not have a schedule yet; the contractor is working on that.

From this point forward, expect regular updates on progress as we get closer to construction. Here are a few updates:

  • New lifts (elevators) to make sure everyone has access to Berktold Hall and the Sunday School wing, along with the choir area and the conference room, is a top priority, but timing will depend in large part on when we can get the materials. Elevators and lifts often take quite a while.

  • Architect and contractor are working on final design plans, and working with subcontractors to secure final bid prices.

  • Unfortunately, some of the windows we wanted to install, including the large wall windows between narthex and sanctuary and windows to bring in more light to women’s restroom, are cost prohibitive due to the walls being load bearing structural walls. As an alternative to the wall windows between narthex and sanctuary, we will be putting in larger windows in the sanctuary doors to achieve some of the effect.

  • Following the asbestos evaluation, we learned that the roof over Berktold Hall needs to be replaced. This is not the roof we replaced in 2018; these are the original shingles from 1957! While a big addition to the project, one benefit is that it helps with our carbon reduction goals. A new roof allows the solar panels to be placed there, which is a better location and should allow for more panels. We will also be able to insulate the roof/ceiling in Berktold Hall, helping reduce our energy consumption.
